It’s my solitude I will embrace

Categories: Gay, Blognost

How many times can my heart break
Disillusioned by the thought of flawless love?

When I was in P-Town, I met a wonderful man named Ryan. We were immediately smitten with each other, and been aggressively dating ever since. I have told only a few people, on the fear of jinxing it.

Too late.

Tonight, he set me on my way.

This is all I can think:

Why This Blog Exists

Categories: Gay, DC, Chicago, Whatever, Blogging, Skiing, Blognost

Yup... that''s meThis is not a post where I’m going to debate in my own head whether or not to continue this so-called blog. It will continue, despite the fact that I seem to accentuating the erratic part of it these days. This is an accounting how this came about, how I have come to this point, and what may be coming in the future.

Few people know that what is here is the third incarnation of this blog. I wiped clean two previous attempts. The first attempt was about 10 months after I first met Scott. Like it or not, I have to admit that he had a lot to do with the failures of the first two, and the fact that this one lived on. (Warning: This is going to get long.)

See Them Jiggle

Categories: Gay, DC, Rowing

Mmmmmm..... boys in LycraRowing season is coming up in about a month, which should make everyone excited: I’m excited because I enjoy it so much… everyone else is excited because it will whip my scrawny butt back into shape.

I’m also working on the Stonewall Regatta, which DC Strokes will host on June 2, 2007. So any of the auto manufacturers are out there who may be interested in being a presenting sponsor, let me know. We’re are a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, and we’re cheap… some of us more than others.

The Strokes will also be having a little fundraiser at JR’s on Sunday March 4th from 7pm to 10pm selling jello shots. So, come on out if you want to see cute, fun guys in Lycra.

If I decide to sell shots that night, it should be easy to pick me out. I’ll be the one who looks like he hasn’t rowed in months, and will be jiggling as much as the Jello.

Jumpstart

Those are some crazy nipple clamps!Once again, I’ve been absent way too long. It’s not that I don’t enjoy blogging… I’ve just had a lot going on.

First and foremost, I’ve been rowing with DC Strokes this summer. I LOVE it, but rowing two nights a week, plus Saturday mornings has required that I be more efficient at work (since I need to leave on time, and thus arrive on time and not piss my day away).

A death in the family, some time in P-Town, a pet project that may or may not appears on these pages plus other miscellaneous family obligations have distracted me for the past several weeks. But I’m renewing my commitment to bore the blogsphere with my ramblings… at least until the next shiny thing catches my glance.

Good news is that July and August have been relatively eventless in the automotive world, at least in the areas which I feel the need to comment on. It shouldn’t take long for me to catch up.

But Where Should I Stick It?

Categories: Cars, Gay, DC

Potential project... Insert JD here.Weekend before last, I attended Capital Pride for the first time in almost ten years. And then, it was only the festival… I skipped the parade for a barbeque on Kent Island.

Granted it had been a while, but I never remember that the Straight 8s had such a prominent place at the festival. (For those who don’t know, the Straight 8s are the gay car club in DC.) Believe it or not, even though I’m such a notorious car queen in DC, I have never joined the Straight 8s. Yes, I, who celebrated my 2nd anniversary with Scott at the Chicago Auto Show, has not felt worthy to join. After all, I have one parking spot that is not covered, so had to compromised and buy a daily driver with the soul of a fun weekend car.

Seeing the ‘31 Pontiac and the pink Dodge Coronet, and chatting with some of the members, I’m thinking of joining. The project car bug has once again bitten me, and getting to know folks whom I can bounce this stuff off of would be great. I might even consider sharing in the project with someone else, though that could get messy.

I’ve actually been playing around with this idea a number of times, most recently after the Carpundit got his 2002. I’ve got it narrowed down to a late 60’s Mercedes SL or an early 70’s Porsche 911. I’ve checked out prices of cars in decent condition, and I think I can swing it. The biggest problem now, is where to store my li’l baby. My parking is not covered, and there is no way I’m storing anything that dreamy outside. A garage space would be optimal, preferably with water and/or electricity available.

If anyone has any ideas, let me know.

The New Homosexual Agenda

Categories: Cars, Gay

The Twink Wing... it's the newest gay car accessoryIf you haven’t noticed, in the past two weeks, the homos have hijacked the entire auto industry.

First, to the couple of you who are wondering why I haven’t posted in two weeks… yes, I’m fine. I’ve had a lot of personal and professional turbulence of late that has prevented me from keeping up with other blogs, in addition to neglecting my own. But all is OK.

Thing is, the news of the past two weeks has been especially appropriate for what this blog has become, as the worlds of automobiles and gay homosexuals have collided head on.

There was a post by Jalopnik which had me asking:

  • Is a 4 inch butt plug the secret to rock-star blogging?

  • What really is the point of this gay leasing company?
Time will only tell concerning the butt plug.

The gay leasing company… I just don’t see the point. There are some sites that provide pertinent information for gay consumers. A good example is GayWheels.com, which lists automakers that provide gay-friendly benefits. Though I clearly didn’t use this information (BMW doesn’t provide same-sex benefits), I know lots of people who factor these things into their purchasing decision. Simply labeling yourself a gay leasing company doesn’t provide any additional value to a gay consumer. In fact, I’ll probably stay away if you can offer me nothing more compelling than being a fag. That’s why concerns such as GayCar, MyGayRealtor, and the like are not really relevant to me.

Of course the BIG news was Ford pulling their ads from gay publications after meeting with the AFA. Apparently, some folks I work with actually read this thing (and I thought all those hits from our subnet was my vanity), and a couple have asked what I thought about the Ford/AFA situation, and why I haven’t posted on it.

Honestly, I wasn’t all that concerned about Ford’s decision. First, Ford wasn’t pulling their domestic partnership benefits, nor were they pulling their Volvo ads. I didn’t like Ford’s actions, but I understood it as a misguided attempt to give the AFA something to claim victory and stop their boycott, yet still maintain strong support for their gay employees. The compromise, of course, made NOBODY happy. Worse yet, their flip flop has put them back where they were beforehand, but with egg on their face.

I was actually more curious how other car bloggers, most of which are straight, would view Ford’s actions. I was pretty sure that Carpundit would be find Ford flat out wrong, but I wasn’t sure about whether the others would be supportive. Some of them are notoriously conservative, though gay politics rarely shows up in their blogs.

Taken as a whole, I’m impressed. All of my usual reads were critical of Ford, and had varying levels of support for gay consumers. Some like the more conservative Joe Sherlock, and Robert Farago explored the issue as a bad business move for Ford, while admonishing the AFA tactics. I’ve just started to get to know Joe at My Ford Dreams, but the debate that ensued in his comments showed me what a good guy he is. I’d like to buy him a beer sometime.

In fact, I’d like to buy the whole bunch of them a beer.

Chicago and All That Jazz

Categories: Gay, Chicago

This blog was originally to be a mixture of cars, gay politics, DC-related news, and… oh… hot guys. I’ve mostly focused on cars, with a little DC content. For the most part, I haven’t delved into anything really personal, and that was by design. This post is different… I just got back from my first trip back to Chicago since the “divorce.” It was a trip I was pretty nervous about making, and it surprised me a bit. Click through only if you are really interested in the neurotic workings of my mind.

Ready Photon Torpedos, Mr. Sulu

Categories: Gay

Amid all the chatter about the indictment of Big Dick’s Boy Friday , and what damage a prison sentence would do, today’s REAL news has gotten lost.

George Takei is a raging homo. This is no surprise to me… he speaks with the same diva-like inflections as Jerry Hall. He shows up on the red carpet in black tie straight out of an International Male catalog. I’m sure he regularly gets a set of wrist-splints with fan letters.

Good for him to be public about it, but I’d rather that it was another resident of LA. (link via towleroad and not safe for work)

Everywhere I look today, it’s all about great big packages…

First, the Carpundit has christened a certain someone “Butterballs“.

Then Jimbo posts about the Brawny man’s impressive bulge.

And, even that tasty brisket at DetroitWonk is talking about the Great American Package.

Either I have a dirtier mind than most, or I missed the memo that today was Genitalia Innuendo Friday.

I’m a HUGE Homo

Categories: Cars, Gay

I think I scared a few commuters this morning.

I’ll preface saying I’m a complete XM Radio junkie. It’s my crack. It’s the only way I get through my daily commute over the river and through the woods to Fairfax Country. As I flipped off U-Pop, through the alternative triplets of Fred, Ethel and Lucy, I hit BPM. They were playing Chaka Khan’s “To Sir With Love” (remixed of course). There I was.. flying through traffic, stereo full thottle, hand in the air through the (open) sunroof, singing along like a drunk drag queen in a bad karaoke bar.

I’m so gay.

The Blog Peepin’ Tom

Categories: Gay, Whatever

I will admit that, beside some of the car-related blogs and those dedicated to DC-related stuff, I regularly check out blogs of folks that I do not know. Generally, I’ve discovered these through links from other blogs, and I just continue reading because they make me laugh.

I came across this post on one of my favorite blogs-of-someone-I-don’t-know, durbanbud. (He’s pretty funny.) First, I don’t know either one of them, but if I did I give them a huge hug to wish them the best. I doubt we’ve even met in passing, which is amazing considering how small DC can seem.

Still, I got all introspective and stuff, since I just watched my 2+ year relationship with Scott crumble. It actually made me think about something disturbing. I have many coupled friends that met in their 20’s, many who are also celebrating 10 or more years together this year. I have some single friends around the same age who have trouble keep a relationship together more than a couple months. I don’t know many folks in between.

Have we evolved into two types of people… those who couple up early in adulthood and know how keep a relationship going, and those of us who are so used to being alone, that we refuse (or don’t know how) to keep a relationship going? And when is the point of no return, where some stay in bad relationships and others sabotage good ones? And is that why I spent so much time in a relationship where we spent most of our time 600 miles apart?

Discuss….
