This morning I was listening to XM’s DC Traffic Channel, and I hear “blah, blah, blah.. the Cock Sucker Channel.”
I’m thinking: “Wait a minute… did they just say Cock Sucker Channel?!?!?!” I assumed I was hearing things. Next traffic report cycle: “blah, blah, blah.. the Cock Sucker Channel.”
WTF? Was this somebody’s crass idea to let the public know Logo is on Comcast digital now? Had Spice TV branched out to sweaty man-love action? Luckily, they play the same ad every cycle of traffic reports. Next time I listened more closely… “blah, blah, blah… MLS… blah, blah, blah… the Cox Soccer Channel.” OK, Cox needs to rename the station and XM needs to require better sound quality on the local traffic advertisements.
On other notes, I’m kind of lovin’ BPM today. After convincing myself that Comcast wasn’t holding back a channel full of cornholin’ hunks, I switch on BPM. They were playing Milky’s Just the Way You Are (the doo, doo, doo song). This was probably my favorite song on 2003. It was kind of theme song for Scott and me, at least in my head. Since it was such a beautiful day, I decided to drive to eat lunch by the Potomac. (Yes, long haul from Tysons, but it was such an amazing day.) This time it was Be My World (the na, na, na song), which is one of my current faves. Yes, today I’m getting all kinds of Milky love.
UPDATE: I could not find any Cox Soccer Channel… I did find, though, a FOX Soccer Channel. I must be going deaf, or the sound quality on the XM metro traffic stations is comparable to AM radio.

Alberto’s Pizza is back open!!!
They’ve been closed for what seems to be forever. For those who don’t know, Alberto’s is probably the best pizza in DC, at least that I’ve been able to find. It’s the only pizza I voluntarily will order for delivery, even if you usually have to wait 45-60 minutes. It’s that good. For the most part, I find the pizza for Domino’s, Pizza Slut, etc. to be mediocre and pretty much a waste of calories. But Alberto’s is in a completely different league. Life is good again.

I am an avid reader of Autoblog, and have linked to it occasionally. But I’m going one step further… the Top 10 Autoblog Posts Of All TIME (imagine echo there)
Why am I doing this? Because Autoblog is an automotive giant among blogs? Nope. They’re giving away free shit, namely an iPod Nano, which I was eyeing anyhow. So here we go… the Top 10 Autoblog Posts Of All TIME (imagine echo there, again):
| 10. GM Pulls Guy Richie Corvette ad
This would have been the coolest ad ever. The C6 is an amazing car, and I’m a big fan of Guy Ritchie’s stuff, like the BMW film Star and the video he did for Madonna’s “What It Feels Like For A Girl“. Plus, he is married to Madonna, and you know how all the gays love her. One of those requirements… you always know you’re gay when Madonna starts sounding REALLY good and you start receiving International Male catalogs. I swear, they just show up, like they know you just figured it out.

9. A genuine traffic jam
Ha ha…. that Dave Thomas had quite a sense of humor. He was so “punny”. Get it, punny… |
8. At least we didn’t think this up
When I first discovered Autoblog, I was so taken (or was it bored at work… whatever) that I spent hours looking through the archives. This one is pretty funny. After I saw it, I was hooked. In fact, after I found the old post just now, I spent about an hour gazing at the latest photos. I’ve always found folks who feel the need to add crap to their beater econoboxes funny, and a bit sad. It’s even better when mods are so amateurish. Add to that, the fact they are on a web site so un-PC to be called LaughAtRice. It’s a little slice of heaven.
|
7. Separated at birth: Toyota Solara and Pontiac G6 coupe
Autoblog put their finger on the pulse of… oh, anyone still blessed with any sense of sight… and said what we’re all thinking. God bless them for it. I guess this is proof that GM has TRULY become a major player in the Chinese auto market. They’re ripping off other companies’ designs blatantly, just like a Chinese company would.
|
6. Why do we do it
Paul and Anita Lienert give the WORST reviews of cars… or maybe second worse. I’m not a huge fan of Warren Brown at the Post… his reviews seem to be more a reflection of HIS moodswings, versus an objective look at the car in question. Anyhow, Paul and Anita are truly bad. Anita almost always prattles on about the lack of adjustable pedals in cars, leading me to believe she may be some kind of deranged dwarf. I had pretty much stopped reading the “He Drove She Drove” column before this post. I can’t believe she equated cup holders on the Boxster with the stirrups at her gynocologist. Anytime I ride in my friend Vince’s Boxster, I now think of Anita’s cooter. Thanks a lot.

5. Official BMW 3 Series Touring images
It’s no secret I love my BMW (see header image). It’s also no secret that I have a thing for wagons. My facination for wagons is actually a little borderline. At the Chicago Auto Show, Scott rolled his eyes everytime we saw a wagon. Even if it was something uninteresting like a Forenza wagon, I still had to check it out. (Admit it… the Forenza is pretty good looking for a econo-wagon.) I’m pretty sure my next car will be a Fore… wait… an E90 wagon. So, this posting really made my heart go pitter-patter.
|
4. BMW M3 range will grow
I’ve already posted on this one, so it had to make it in my top ten. The prospect of owning a BMW M3 Wagon is too good to be true. It makes me all warm and moist. |
3. Smaller and Cheaper Maserati
Some people take their PhotoChops so seriously. I’m mildly entertained by them, but I get really tired of those who post them on Autospies and claim they have insider knowledge and pass the PhotoChops as legit. That’s why this one made me giggle.
|
2. One big Chicago pothole
This one isn’t so much about the car, but about those things we (usually) drive our cars on. Back in the day, Dave Thomas brought a little local flavor to Autoblog. Since I was a part-time resident of Chicago at the time, I always like the local feel of his posts. These days, Dave Thomas has moved on, Autoblog is all grown and has it’s big-boy-pants. It’s better this way, but I still have a soft spot for the old days. I (heart) Dave Thomas.

1. More Geely CD pics from Frankfurt
The Chinese auto companies are a pretty strange lot, which makes so much to love about this post. There is the strange snort-nosed concept car, which was inspired by the Beijing Opera’s facial painting. There is the fact the company shares a name with a certain theatric train-wreck. And finally the strange monkey-people loitering around the car. What’s not to love?

The entire blogosphere is high. Autoblog posted pictures from the Frankfurt Auto Show of the BMW Z4 coupe. Every comment babbles on how beautiful it is. Are they nuts?!?! Chris Bangle has created some controversial designs over the past couple years… and by controversial I mean fucking ugly and weird. Luckily, the designs are getting back to a modern interpretation of the classic BMWs. Nothing, though, got wacked by Bangle’s ugly stick quite as bad as the Z4. Now they created the Z4 coupe… and it’s just as ugly. It’s a shame because the overall proportions and shape of car is fine… all it needs is someone to smooth out all the weird intersecting creased curves. It gets my vote for the ugliest concept car at Frankfurt. Amazing since Ssangyong was there.
On the other side is the Ford iosis. This car is truly stunning. As a rule, I’m usually luke warm on Fords designs. They occasionally come out with a great design, but more often than not create generic designs that evoke no emotion, good or bad. But if this is any indication, they could be back on the cutting edge of design.
This is actually the second time in a year Ford has shown an absolute hottie. At Detroit, they showed the Shelby GR-1, which was completely clad in polished aluminum. I saw it at the Chicago Auto Show, and I kept dragging Scott back to it throughout the day. He was annoyed, but I just couldn’t take my eyes off it.
Shiny things do that to me.

From Wonkette: “U.S. President George W. Bush writes a note to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during a Security Council meeting at the 2005 World Summit and 60th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York September 14, 2005.”
I’m just in shock. No wonder he wasn’t prepared for Katrina. He couldn’t even figure out he should take a whizz before meeting with, oh, the ENTIRE WORLD. OK, fine it was just Security Council… but I bet Blair made a quick loo break beforehand.
And better yet, he felt the need to share with Condi. He could have said that he thought it would be a good time for a 5 minute break, and not shared quite so much. I guess it could be worse… something like “I need to yuze the shitt’r”
Bush is an idiot.

The Frankfurt Auto Show is awash in my favorite cars… convertible coupes, or (more descriptive) retractable hardtops. Peugeot has been producing several for years. The only ones in the US have been the Mercedes SLK (pricy) and the Lexus SC (pricy and ugly) Yeah, yeah, there is the future Pontiac G6 convertible, but GM has so many quality problems that they probably won’t get it to market.
That’s soon to change. Frankfurt has introduced the Volvo C70 and the Volkswagen Eos, both should be in the US in the next couple years. In addition, I’m hoping we have the chance to see the Opel Astra TwinTop in the US as a Saturn. (Lots of other Opels are coming here as Saturns… GM, it makes sense to do this.)
I’m a huge fan of the C70… it should prove to be a fun car with good handling and safety. I owned a VW before the BMW, and I won’t own another VW for a while, so no Eos. Since I’m just speculating/wishing the Opel will show up as a Saturn, so I won’t get too excited about it… though it’s tough not to get excited about a car called the TwinTop… I think I saw a film once about twin tops?

This was the first Adams Morgan Day I’ve attended in years. Too bad I forgot my camera, because I would have all sorts of pictures of a great day to post. (One of these days I’ll remember.)
But beforehand AM Day, there had to be brunch. I have a obsessive softspot for brunch. Scott and I used to bring two eggs, bacon and a bloody mary to a high art. I planned to meet my friends Vince, Gina and Jerry for brunch beforehand.
As I was walking down 14th Street towards Merkado, I suddenly saw familiar face. I’m very picky about my haircut, and I had a fabulous stylist who disappeared from her old salon 6 months ago. But there she was. There were hugs and a phone number exchange and I found out that she is now cutting at Urban Style Lab. Thank god, because Melissa is that FABULOUS of a stylist… and I now have her back again.
Merkado is a great brunch, if you like the Latin-Asian fusion concept. No matter your taste the potatoes are pretty yummy.
Adams Morgan Day was a lot of fun, but… OK, I might be jaded, since the only street festival I’ve attended in the past three years has been Chicago’s Market Days. Adams Morgan Day just seemed to be smaller than I remember. And Adams Morgan Days doesn’t have the Human League performing in a 7-11 parking lot. Market Days is billed as the largest street festival in the country, and I have no doubt. Then again, Adams Morgan Day isn’t about a bunch of white gay guys spending two days drinking (or otherwise), but a reflection of a diverse neighborhood. Then again again, there weren’t as many hot shirtless guys on Sunday. Maybe we need to remedy that.
Note: Urban Style Lab is having a Hurricane Katrina victim fundraiser on Sunday. All the cash from the cuts goes to charity, first come first serve. Just don’t get in the way of the skinny blond requesting Melissa… he may take you down.
Another note… the Frankfurt Auto show starts today… my heart is a-flitter.

I think I scared a few commuters this morning.
I’ll preface saying I’m a complete XM Radio junkie. It’s my crack. It’s the only way I get through my daily commute over the river and through the woods to Fairfax Country. As I flipped off U-Pop, through the alternative triplets of Fred, Ethel and Lucy, I hit BPM. They were playing Chaka Khan’s “To Sir With Love” (remixed of course). There I was.. flying through traffic, stereo full thottle, hand in the air through the (open) sunroof, singing along like a drunk drag queen in a bad karaoke bar.
I’m so gay.

I was driving home tonight on the GW Parkway, and saw my first new Passat. Overall, I’m impressed. The redesign is pretty good. The front and rear overhangs are a bit more than the current trend, but you really can’t avoid them with a front wheel drive car if it’s to remain proportional. VW did a much job on the Passat than that train-wreck-called-the-new-Jetta.
I was hoping that VW would have shown the new Passat at the Chicago Auto Show, since they presented the Jetta at Detroit. Alas, my hopes were dashed, and I was forced to wander through the VW exhibit avoiding stepping into the Jetta’s MONTROUSLY HUGE ASS.
So, tonight I burst my Passat cherry. Will I buy one? Of course not. The car is too large for my tastes, and it’s now just a prettier, bloated Jetta versus a bargain Audi that the last one was.

Fabulous weekend. Period.
It’s been so long since I’ve seen Jamie and Andra. Before Scott and I hit our bad patch, I saw them every few weeks in Chicago, but since I haven’t been travelling up there lately, I haven’t had a good excuse to see them. But, a wedding brought them back to DC.
Actually, it was a bit strange. I don’t perform on a “real” stage. (Whether I perform otherwise is up for interpretation.) A lot of my friends are of the thespian persuasion, and were attending a wedding in Lansdowne. They met the groom in college and/or plays and musicals. I really don’t know the groom, but since of many of my closest friends were invited and were spending the night before at the resort… well, I checked in for the night before also. Even though it was just a night out at the tavern, I felt like I was crashing a party.
Anyhow, I’m so happy to catch up with so many of my friends…. and get into trouble. (Almost won a dare to get my picture with two other competing brides TOGETHER… in their wedding dresses.)
One note…. I miss spending time in Chicago. Fine, there it is. I still haven’t figured out if it’s that I miss my 2nd home (Chicago) or if it’s really just missing Scott. Either way, I think I’m going to travel to Chicago to visit Jamie and Andra more often this fall. It will be strange to be a just visitor; I had begun to feel like a Chicagoan.

It’s Labor Day weekend, and I’m heading out to crash pre-wedding festivities in the country (aka Loudoun County).
Couple of thoughts… why does DC have a Chinatown? I was there last night and the only Chinese thing I saw was the signs for the tourist traps. I think any Chinese immigrants have long left. And if the restaurant we were at last night was any indication, there is much better Chinese food in Dupont Circle than in Chinatown.
Two of my best friends from Chicago arrive tomorrow for the wedding… can’t wait.
